Gifts & hospitality

BT has a clear policy regarding gifts and hospitality offered by suppliers.

The key points to note are:
  • during a procurement adjudication period, the BT adjudication team will not accept any gifts or hospitality from the suppliers involved. The BT adjudication team includes anyone who has direct influence on the decision making and selection process. This restriction applies until any resultant contract is formally awarded and declines are issued to unsuccessful suppliers

  • any gift must be within the value limits specified in the policy which varies from country to country (e.g. in the UK this is £125 per gift) and must:

    • not be cash or securities
    • be a one off or occasional gift and not form part of a regular pattern of gift giving
    • not be able to be construed as a bribe
    • not be given with the intent of influencing any decision
    • not violate any laws or regulations
  • the value limits for gifts in the policy does not include reasonable business entertainment or hospitality (e.g. a meal, ticket to the theatre or sporting event) if:

    • the host is present
    • the purpose is to hold a bona fide business discussion or to develop better business relations, not to create any form of obligation
    • the entertainment is openly offered and not solicited
    • such entertainment is neither so frequent nor extensive to raise questions of impropriety
